Supporting Small Local Business

It’s been a long while since I wrote a blog post. In the main, because I’ve not had much to say, but also because I’ve had my nose firmly to the grindstone pulling together lots of new projects which will eventually be films...which brings me neatly to the title of this post.

I am a great believer in supporting small, local businesses where possible.  Even in the centre of London, given the choice of a huge coffee shop chain or a small independent café – I will usually opt for the latter knowing that every flat white or homemade flapjack purchase really does make a difference.

Many, many times I have paid more than the ‘going rate’ for lunch, dinner, snacks, artwork, jewellery, clothes, classes, training - even pubs - because I know these places; I know their products; in some cases, I know their ethics, and in a lot of cases, I know the owners and families behind these small businesses.  I know how many months of planning, sleepless nights, sweat and tears have gone into getting them up and running; I know their daily slog to keep ticking along. I know my purchases and interaction with them make a difference – no matter how small – and thus, in my own little way, I help these businesses to grow, develop and make their own contribution to our economy.

I am also a small business.

It may seem strange to think it, but that is in fact what I am. I am an independent film producer which means I am not financed by any studio, particular group or person – I’m my own boss, my own financier, I make my own mistakes, my own successes. I do my own sh*t.

On a daily basis, I come across interesting information. Now and again I stumble across stories I utterly love and am passionate about, people I admire and want to work with; the visions I picture in my mind and the music I hear accompanying them – I want everyone to share in them. If a story touches my heart and soul, has the capability of making me happy, sad, confused, scared or focussed – that’s what I want an audience to feel.

Not many people understand what a producer actually does*. Most people think we generally swan around from one screening to the next, quaffing champagne and partying with luvvies. Don’t get me wrong, there is an element of that – but it really is all in a day’s work. If you ever see a producer walking slowly then they’re either talking to financiers or talent (actor, writer etc) or they’re figuring out a plot problem; if none of these apply, they’re more than likely about to drop dead. I don’t know many slow-walking producers. Nope. In fact, I know none at all. We are the ultimate ‘time is money and money is time’ people. If we can multitask multitasking, we’ll attempt it.

So anyway, back to me and my small business(es).

Every film I set up becomes a business of its own – like a sub-business of me – and every one of them has to be run correctly.  So, I myself am a business and I – alone or with other people – set up lots of new little businesses: these are the films, themselves. Are you keeping up? So far, so good.

As we all know, in order for a business to start up, one needs investment (unless you have a big pot of cash), but of course most people are unable to invest large amounts of money or it’s just not their thing; besides, investment should be viewed as a longer-term commitment. But there is an alternative available, which means you can help small businesses (in this case, films) to literally ‘start up’…and it is called crowdfunding.

Up until recently, I had never used crowdfunding for funding my own projects as I have always gone down the traditional route of financial investment/loans etc. This has generally been because the investment required has been at the lower budget end and as a possible outright sum for one or more backers, the sum is low enough to mitigate too much risk.  However, I have on many occasions in the past, contributed to an awful lot of crowdfunded projects via Indiegogo and Kickstarter: it’s been a nice way to say, “I believe in you/your project/product”.

Crowdfunding is essentially what it says on the tin – a crowd funds a project – and in the case of my current film, FIZZY DAYS, the crowd will only fund a small percentage of the film’s full budget. By asking people to ‘back’ the film we are asking them to literally chuck in a few quid to show their support and interest, and from as little as £10 backing, you can even choose a nice little gift (called a ‘Perk’) in return for your support. Is that not an interesting prospect? To sit in front of your TV/in the cinema in 18 months time and say, “I helped make that film happen”?

If you take part in crowdfunding, there is no financial return on your investment – you literally are donating funds towards the project and all of this money (minus a small % taken by the online platform) will go straight into our company bank account ready for preproduction. But more importantly, you are backing a small business, and if you know me on a personal basis, you would be backing a small local business. Of course, like I mention above, from a backing of £10 or more you get a Perk in return, so essentially it’s no different to me buying lunch, coffee, dinner, gym sessions, clothes, flowers etc from a small independent business and getting a product in return for my money spent.

I don’t work on projects I’m not passionate about; if I genuinely feel a film would be of artistic and commercial potential then I will give my heart and soul. If you know me, then you know I live, eat and breathe what I do…and luckily for me, lots of fabulous actors, actresses, award winning crew members and even the sales people really do like this film too.

So go on, for the price of just a couple of coffees, lunch – right up to however much you like – pop some funds into the pot and be part of something very cool.

It would be really great, if like me, you could see the huge potential of supporting small business by backing via the crowdfund – and rather than me tell you here all about the film, FIZZY DAYS - with its glam rock roots, 70s vibe and beautifully crafted, amusing, coming-of-age script - take a read through the campaign pages, watch the video, look at the artwork, check out the Perks for the film and make up your own mind. If you like what you see, consider donating a few quid or grabbing yourself a great Perk. We’re also on Facebook and Twitter – all links are below so pop over there, ‘like’ our page and give us a follow.

Then, just like any small business you use and like, tell your friends, colleagues and customers to do the same.  I know I do.

Thanks for reading.

*Film Producer - Wikipedia:
Film producers fill a variety of roles depending upon the type of producer.‪ Either employed by a production company or independent, producers plan and coordinate various aspects of film production, such as selecting script, coordinating writing, directing and editing, and arranging financing.‪‬ The average Hollywood film made in 2013 had just over 10 producer credits (producers, executive producers, co-producers, associate producers and other types of producer).‪ During the "discovery stage" the producer has to find and acknowledge promising material.‪ Then, unless the film is supposed to be based on an original script, the producer has to find an appropriate screenwriter.‪
For various reasons, producers cannot always personally supervise all of the production. As such, the main producer will appoint executive producers, line producers or unit production managers who represent the main producer's interests.‪ Among other things, the producer has the last word on whether sounds or music have to be changed or scenes have to be cut and they are in charge of selling the film or arranging distribution rights.

Out of the Ashes

I'm not even going to go into my grand absence from here. There's been way too much water tsunami-d under the bridge for that.

However..not sure what happened this morning.

Maybe it was being back at the gym yesterday after injury has caused me not to be able to punch a bag and lift weights for a while...maybe quite a few months' worth of decent sleep have built up a reserve of energy...maybe having taken a b-i-g step back from everything in order to reassess my life and goals has helped? Who knows - but christ almighty - today I'm all-guns-a-blazing. And boy am I back!

First up is my very own first feature development - proper. No pretending here. The gloves are off (actually they're back on, but that's just being back at the gym) and this film will get made if it's the last thing I do. I don't particularly want to Produce it (I will keep my Producer cap on at jaunty angle until such a time as I can hand it over) but I will most definitely be writing/directing. I don't want to be concerned with finances, logistics and feeding a crew - I just want to purely focus on the story, performance, feel and look of what's on screen.

It's a story that wants to be told - it's quite personal to me and so I'm just working out the best way to tell it. It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea and will be quite shocking and very dark in parts but heck yeah: I'm all over it. On it, like a car bonnet. It's early days, and it may take a while as I have TV things to work on as well, but who knows, it could turnaround quicker than I imagine.

Here are a couple of little soothing, chilled NSFW videos to go in line with the concept. I'll try and pop back more regularly in the future.

*Nods*

It's been pretty quiet around Tenacious Towers recently as I've had my nose to the grindstone, face to the floor, with some big deadlines looming - but thought I'd drop by and share a little something.

I wasn't quite sure what that little something was to be but I have decided to share this, my mantra:

"Plunge boldly into the thick of life, and seize it where you will, it is always interesting." ~ Goethe

and just for good measure:

"It isn't the mountains ahead to climb that wear you out; it's the pebble in your shoe." ~ Muhammad Ali
Don't ask me why. That is all. Until next time. :0)

Below is one of the very few things that has made me cry with laughter this week. I hope it tickles you too.

Happy Easter, y'all.

Your Life Is Now?

Pic stolen blatantly from www.realitybitesat40.blogspot.co.uk - thank you, LorettaLikes - how I love your blog.

For all those out there who haven't read it - you must. Most people I know will find it really insightful, but especially so if you're female, are not 25, have kids AND wish to carry on working in TV/Film! Gosh - who would have thought? What a mad combo! Mad, I say..!

Mi Vida Loca

Hello there

I think I can just about make you out in that dusty corner which was behind the Christmas tree.  Never mind, I'll get the vacuum out and then you'll be all sparkly and new again.

Anyway, here's to 2013. It couldn't be any weirder than 2012, could it?

Well, life's funny little seesaw really went to town on me last year: professionally - higher than mean average, personally - lower than sea level. In fact I nearly drowned in emotion, but hey - I'm still here.

So, 2013? The year that all changes. A big huge shift in everything. I have intentionally cut back on projects as I have come to realise there is only one me and I can't actually do everything at once - I certainly can't work with/for others on a promise of finance 'at some point'.  I do actually need to eat and The Kid needs shoes. More than anything, I know what I can do; I know my abilities and limits; I also know my worth.

The first time this "year-not-planned-out" struck me was when someone asked me what I was kicking the new year off with - I replied with a "Ummm, we'll see" and a shrug.  Shock, horror.  Was I 'just' becoming a Mummy?  Ummm, no - although that would be quite enough on its own. I am fortunate to have some amazing work stuff going on, however, I have made a lot of big adjustments but actually, they work and are pretty good, all the same. I have cut away a lot of the driftwood that has weighed me down or held me back over the years and now every move I make has to count personally and professionally. It's all for me and The Kid, and we're quite a team.

I was going to write a hugely long post about work/life balance, life losses through over-work, working 'clever' and how sometimes PEOPLE are more important, but you know what - that lovely guy, Philip Bloom, beat me to it.  When I first read his post I could have thought, "Oh bugger I was going to say lots of that..." but instead I smiled and said, "Cheers, Phil - I'm going to write a quick 2013 post, switch off and then play Lego with my little boy." Thanks, mate!

Happy New Year all.  Make this the beginning of your new era. I know I will.

It's here: "How To Be Dead"

It is finally Halloween - and as promised, here is the "How To Be Dead" pilot.

We really hope you enjoy our general silliness and want more, so in the meantime, please feel free to keep on re-watching this pilot episode if you really do enjoy it. You may not realise, but the numbers and analytics behind all this really do matter - it shows us where you are in the world and if we've done something right (or wrong - but hopefully not!).

So...like it? Then 'Like' it, please. Then tell your friends, family, colleagues and enemies to log in, click along, watch it and 'Like' it too - obviously, if they don't like it then don't hold them hostage or anything because that would be a bit silly. Do also feel free to leave a comment or just say hello - Death does get lonely and likes a good read when he's quiet...

Ready. Deady. Go.

Here we are then: the time is almost upon us, and How To Be Dead is ready to be born.  Of course, no-one will see it until it goes live next Wednesday, 31st October; no-one that is except me and Dave, who will probably drive ourselves utterly bonkers with stupid irrational nit-picky quibbles that do not qualify for any time spent thinking about them. But we will.

I hate this 'calm' period.

This is the bit where we've all done as much as we can but no-one has seen it. It's the ultimate diet part of production when 7lbs falls off for no apparent reason. It's the time when I struggle to sleep for more than 3 hours solid at any given point. It's the "Should I have done xyz?" era.

Hey ho, it'll all be fine. After a nice cup of tea.

Talking of tea - if you are at the London Screenwriters Festival pre-reg drinks tonight, we'll be chatting on the 'Break on Through' panel. Do say 'Hi' if you're there. Failing that, we'll both be around and about the festival most of the weekend anyway. See you there.

Alive with Death.

Personally and professionally, 2012 has been an utterly mad roller coaster year - I can't believe it is nearly October to be honest, and more to the point, I have survived with my sanity still intact*.

So here I am, still at Tenacious Towers (even though the physical address has changed, we took the turrets and spooks with us), still working my ass off and still juggling The Kid's social agenda - and it's all good.

The end of this February saw the release of "Deviation" closely followed by "Hard Boiled Sweets" in early March, and due to uncanny stuff, I had the pleasure of having not one but TWO features playing at the same time in London's Leicester Square. That was mighty strange and quite cool, however, I was a bit naffed off as I couldn't get both cinemas in the same photograph. Next time I must ensure these uncanny things to happen next door to each other - makes for a better photo opp, y'know?

The summer of 2012 will always remain the Summer of Readjustment in my mind. Moving house, unpacking, packing, dashing off on partial holiday/partial work related stint in Spain, unpacking again (suitcases and house), six weeks' worth of washing, funky day trips to London with The Kid, making dinosaurs out of paper and wood (with The Kid), attending what seemed to be a continual flow of music festivals and car-related days out (with The Kid), trying to build furniture/garden stuff with one screwdriver and a small hammer (with The Kid) - closely followed by big hissy fits (me), tears (me) and the eventual purchase of B&Q's entire toolkit stock (me). A busy summer. And then 'we' went back to school and my 'real' work sleeves got rolled up.

During the early summer months, a brilliantly funny piece of writing by the delightful Dave Turner, was deposited into my mucky hands. Having asked me for some 'Producer' advice, Dave and I had a little drinkie meeting and by the end of it we had agreed to make the Pilot episode for this exceedingly funny new series. With both of us juggling work commitments, children and their poxy summer holidays, we decided to wait until the little bastards darlings went back to school thus giving us some peace to create.  No sooner had the younger generation started back in education, I dusted down my Director's hat which I placed at a jaunty angle to my Producer's hat, and off we went: the result being "How To Be Dead".  Having just wrapped on the pilot filming, I am still on a high about it all. We had the usual issues of people hearing the word "FILMING" and an onslaught of ££££££ signs popped into their eyes, but other than the odd awkward/greedy/rude/illiterate bastard, everything was bloody marvellous.

The cast and crew couldn't actually have been more talented, happy to be involved and lovely to work with if they had tried, and just when I thought it couldn't get any better, the whole Post team turn out to be utterly wonderful too.  Who knew? It is amazeballs.

The Pilot Episode will be streamed from the website on 31st October 2012 (very aptly, that is Halloween, in case you'd forgotten), with the teaser trailer coming out a few weeks before.  It's a bit of a tight turn around for the team but everyone is embracing it with open arms, which is really very lovely and quite touching.

I do hope you will watch the trailer and the Pilot when it comes out - I shall pop back here to remind you closer to the time**.  The "How To Be Dead" Pilot promises to be very silly and a lot of fun and in my estimation totally deserves a series on TV, let alone the web.  But we shall see.  Until then...

Demonstrable Deviation

It's been way too long since I rocked up here - many apologies. And the place looks like it could really do with a little dust and polish too...

I'm afraid I can't linger for very long as I have a couple of other things I need to attend to, but just in case you have been living on the moon or have taken a vow of social network silence, I thought I'd bring you up to date on the release of 'DEVIATION'. Yes, that's right - that was the film I popped off to produce just a smidgen over a year ago and is now imminently hitting the screens - all kinds of sizes and types of screen too.

If you like your films on a big screen - the theatrical release is 24th February 2012; if you like your films on demand, downloaded, on DVD or BluRay, then the multiplatform release on 27th February is your date - but hey, you can even pre-order the DVD/BlurRay to arrive for then!  If you like films, but prefer to watch the c'lebs arrive for the premieres and parties then 23rd February is the date for you.  Watch this space for details of the premiere and a list of cinemas the film will be showing in...

It's all a bit of a weird time just now - a bit whirlwind-ish with so, so, so much to do and not nearly enough hours to do it in AND sleep.  But I know you lot, you'll be glad to hear I'm not just sitting back and enjoying it all: so I'll let you know I'm now in early prep for the next one, which we'll be shooting in April.

More on that soon, but in the meantime (just in case you haven't seen it) here is the 'DEVIATION' trailer.

Although lots of big online & supermarket retailers will also be selling it, these guys have it online so far...

Now be sure to pop in a pre-order for the DVD, won't you..?

Did someone say 'Raptor?

I have been joshing about a lot this week about The impending doom imminently upon us - now more commonly know as the Rapture.  I have also been asked on many occasions WTF I am wittering on about - especially by my Mother who *knows* All Things Important.

So - the Rapture?  Am I talking about those little dinosaurs that creep up on you silently until they slash your jugular?  Nearly, but not quite.

The end of the World is Nigh, babycakes - didn't ya know?

It all stems from the fact that Jesus is popping back to reclaim his Saints, as stated in 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17:
"... and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."
So, Jesus is popping back to gather up all his buddies - but don't you be tricked into thinking this is the Second Coming just now. Oh no - that comes after the period of Tribulation, which itself pre-empts the battle at Armageddon.  Got that? Good. 'Cos you're going to need your wits about you.

If you're not a follower, it's going to be a rough ride, hun, as the period of Tribulation will throw out pain and suffering, world disaster, famine, wars and general hardship - envisaged to wipe out over three quarters of the world's population. But we need to understand the Rapture first, right?

The 2011 End Times prediction has been made by a gentleman called Harold Campling who is a US Christian Radio Show Host.  He has stated that the Rapture will sweep across the globe by timezone with earthquakes hitting at 18:00 local time in each location. Citing Jeremiah 25:32  -
"evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth"
 - he states the earthquakes will continue across the globe as the sun advances.
"I know it's absolutely true, because the Bible is always absolutely true." Campling says.
Nice.

Campling has argued his case on a numerological level tallied with biblical proof. You see, this is the guy who managed to work out the date of the Great Flood and then move forward, interpreting God's Code in the Bible, to work out the Rapture date for us all and it sure saved me the bother.  However, not infallible, Campling previously predicted the global expiry date to be September 1994 and following a no-show from Jesus, he retracted his claim as a mathematical error. Quite rightly so.

Well, dear friends, now you know what I'm mumbling on about.

If we're all still here tomorrow post 18:00 local times, then that's great. We've had our fair share of earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions,  floods, freak snow and freak heatwaves over the past year or so - and we've also had a few nasty wars, disasters and a whole lot of suffering of late.  Perhaps we've been in our period of Tribulation and not realised it, anyway?

Of course this is only the beginning of the End, dears - the actual world expiry date is 21st October 2011. Of course.

It took 7 days to create - but will take five months to destroy.  Cool.  That is significant advancement for you.

Hope to see you all tomorrow.

CR!KEY - We're off!

For those of you who haven't seen recent Twitterage or haven't yet become fans of the Facebook site, the new film I'm Producing is called "CR!KEY VILLAINS".  I was intending to have a countdown to the shoot starting, but pre-production is all over and here I am, all lonely in the Production Office; everyone having fun on set.  [This, of course, is a total untruth as we are all having far too much fun, on and off set.  We are a very happy shoot, us lot. :0) ]

It's been a remarkably busy, but only sometimes stressful, few weeks of pre-production.  We have still managed to laugh on a daily basis (that says something) and although there are many details to be ironed out, therein lies the fun and games myself, Demi Jones (Producer), Michael Riley (Producer) and Margaret Matheson (Exec Producer) are yet to have - that is once I am through bowing at their jaw-dropping omnipresences.

With our locations spread over many parts of London as well as Southend, the scale of shoot is wide enough - but not once will we let our dear Writer/Director, David Hughes, be bothered with such trivial details, or allow him to move away from his position of picturesque, calm demeanour under extreme pressure.

Last week, we had the cast read through and photo shoots which allowed colourful 3D life to billow into these, up until now, entertaining but 2D black and white characters on a page.  The actors started to fill out the personas and possess the words on the paper as their own - and suddenly a whole new world was emerging.  The big, small-time crooks; the ganstas; the girls; the cars; the guns; the houses; the money - the whole new world of the CR!KEY VILLAINS.  But, "Who are the Cast?", I hear you shout!  Who exactly are the CR!KEY VILLAINS? Well - you'll have to stay tuned for that.

If you'd like to keep up to date with me and the world of the CR!KEY VILLAINS shoot, then head over HERE - the Producer's Blog is where I'll be for a little while (starting soon) and I will do my best to bring you the news as it happens.

Hope to see you there. But remember: "Lie. Cheat. Steal. Whatever it takes to have a nice day."

Laters, beautiful people.

LMG x

Pssssst...

*shuffles*

Errr, hello? It's me?

It's been so long, I've forgotten what you look like!  Oh, but how I have missed all your little japes, and the way your dimples tilt upwards when you laugh!  Ahhh, it's been months since we shared a quiet gin and tonic and munched on chippies.  Yes, yes, I know - you still like ketchup and I still prefer HP Brown Sauce - but some things will never change.  At least we agree on the piri piri mayo side of things - we could never have too much of that good thing, could we?

I trust you've been behaving whilst I have been away?  Good.  I really have been away too - here, there and everywhere. I undertook what felt like a whistle-stop tour of Europe - literally a few nights here, a few nights there and then a few nights everywhere else.  It rained in Cannes, it rained in Andalusia - in the mountains and on the coast - and apparently it's also due to rain in Rome when my path may cross it. I really need to buy more WD40 before my mechanics halt with rust.  The trip(s) were part pleasure, part work and the recces I did whilst in Spain were ever so worthwhile - returning me to the UK with a big smile and a lovely bunch of contacts who will be more than happy to have a film crew irritating the hell out of them for a bit.  It's how I roll.

I suppose you want to know what I've been up to then?  Hmmm.  Complicated.  Lots of stuff.  This, of course, comes with the territory as I am neither one thing or another but all at the same time, and in one pot.  I'm currently writing a TV pilot, producing a different TV pilot¹, producing a very marvellous feature², developing/self-shooting D/P a doco and I'm also looking at a different way of working and production which could be very good fun. "0110: Twisted Tales & Glorious" may be the first victim - I mean, trial - but more on that another time. Well you get the picture - life is good and any more talk of my stuff on my own blog and I shall be accused of self wank publicity - and heaven forbid that should happen. ;0)  I often think it's odd how Producing has crept up on me like it has - but apparently you can't actually call yourself a Producer until your 4th feature, so I guess that makes me a Producer-in-Waiting-Bum.  Well, whatever it is that I spend my days doing, I really do enjoy it and apparently I am quite good at it, which is rather lovely for everyone else, too³.  I do miss the immersive creation that comes with writing and directing though, so there's no chance I could 'just' Produce, I don't think. Although, I have to say, budgets can be quite creative and if the money's right...

More than anything recently, I have been quite studious.  Quiet.  Still.  Observing.  Hiding from the light whilst constantly seeking out talent for in front of and behind the camera, crunching numbers one minute, researching words that go together, the next.  I have now emerged from my shell a little but I fully intend to retreat back very soon.  It's not that I don't love you all, it's just the noise, you see.  The digital white noise, it deafens me.  It's everywhere.  And it has done my head in.  Sorry.  But I only do online when necessary.

Every day I receive in the region of 100-200 emails (some people think I am worth a punt, obviously).  I flag them up to respond, as follows:
  1. I will die a painful, torturous death if I don't reply immediately
  2. I will self-combust if I don't reply soon because it's so exciting
  3. I will die if I don't reply in the next hour
  4. Yes, it's important but I'll reply after torturous death, certain death and self-combustion ones
  5. I will reply later when I have five seconds to breathe after the death mail
  6. I will reply when I remember
  7. General news and views - tea break reading fodder
  8. Friends and relatives (non work related)
  9. I won't ever reply, so fuck off and get out of my life, my face, business & Inbox
  10. Spam, Junk and Nigerian Prince Marriage Proposals
Information overload, every morning. And that's just email. So please, if you are waiting for an answer to anything, bear with me. Just don't threaten me or get too sassy, otherwise you will be flagged as No 9 along with the exes. On the other hand if I say remind me in [insert timescale here]...guess what? Remember to remind me: strangely, I said it for a reason!

I hardly ever read any blogs or Facebook pages these days either, so I have no real idea how you all are, where you all are or what you are doing; I find it virtually impossible to 'socialise' unless it's heavily work-related and my livelihood is under threat for not attending.  Having said that, when I do actually catch up with people or bump into them whilst they are also 'doing Soho' (so to speak), it's really lovely to grab a quick cuppa/G&T/Rioja and have a chinwag.

But don't fear, I haven't abandoned all technology as I can usually be found on Twitter a great deal. This is only because 140 characters don't take much thinking and I have a knack of not really noticing unless I have a message, plus it's nice to say Hi to people I haven't seen for ages. (Hi if you're not on Twitter *waves*)

I am also found to be lurking in the dark corners of eBay a lot as I am currently building up my own shooting kit.  I'm basically over there like an elephant running through a car boot sale at the moment, to be honest.  It's fun and I do like to win bids. On the other hand I can get a little stroppy if I don't [Yes, I'm talking about you, you slinky little matte box and sexy follow focus. Just so you know - I would have loved you more...]

Phew. Well, you know what? It's been lovely chatting, but my shell is calling me and I'm starting to get a bit tetchy.  I need to return to my script, the Spanish mountains and Rodrigo y Gabriella.

Until next time.

¹ 0110: Twisted Tales & Glorious of course, where have you been?
² Watch this space. There may be news, soon.
³ Of course, now I will fuck everything up and have to choke on humble pie or eat through a straw for the rest of my days
eBay is an online necessity
It's not rocket science. Mad, but not rocket science.

Dad

Today should have been my Dad's 70th Birthday but thanks to that bastard disease cancer, he's not here to celebrate.

Bless his little cotton socks - cannot for one moment imagine Dad ever being s-e-v-e-n-t-y. I have been thinking about him all day, working out his year of birth, convinced I am wrong - but my maths is correct: he would have had a big load of candles today.

I miss my annual 'surprise' red eye flight up to Edinburgh on the morning of the 2nd March; I miss turning up at his door like an excited five year old with parcels, breakfast rolls and bubbly; I miss him acting surprised and saying "I thought it was a bit bloody early for the postman!"; I miss him giving me such a big bear hug I can't breathe. I really miss him.

I've had an unusual amount of positive news today - nothing definite, nothing guaranteed - but good all the same. I'd like to think that somehow, Dad had a hand in some of that.

Cheers Da-Da. Happy Birthday. x

Schminterview

I was recently approached by the lovely Scriptwriter and Reviewer, Andrew Tibbs, and asked if I would mind doing an interview for his new blog. I considered this for all of a second and the results are HERE. I hope you enjoy it.

Meanwhile in "0110: Twisted Tales & Glorious" land, things are getting very exciting. The final drafts are all but in; about sixty percent of the Commissioner's Pack is complete and the whole of Series 1 and 2 are tied up with a pretty bow - but I didn't knot it too tight, just in case. I'm one for making a decent contingency.

That's it for now, short and sweet. How very unlike me.

Ta-ra!
